After years of being an MTSO, I left it to work as an IC and PTE. While it was not my main problem, I have to say it was a problem - finding enough MTs.

I struggled with it because all the US MTs only want to work premium day shifts. No one wanted to work evenings and nights or weekends. Yeah, sure a couple here or there but not enough to give me enough to cover the accounts and keep turn-around time in contract. Also, many of those who applied would do the 3 dictations to test for me and their work was pitifully poor. They would puff up and boast about all their years of experience and could do any work but when they transcribed, they just couldn't demonstrate it.

It's not a conspiracy theory. I've experienced it, I've fought with it, it's truth.

I have to tell ya that it is so competitive to get contracts with customers, both small and large, because you have to have the fastest turn-around-time for the lowest price. It's turned into a real business, like everything else has.

There's no going back at this point. Some companies will survive as they constantly find ways to tread the treacherous waters but many will go under because they can't keep up.

It doesn't have to spell doomsday for everyone but you do have to realize that you'll have to go with the flow or get out of it.
