I can't tell you how many times over the past 13 years I wanted to transcribe something like you've suggested... or transcribe right in the report the things that the dictator says ''out of context'' and not relevent to the report, but something to show what a jerk he/she is or something to that effect.
I really don't think collectively we can do anything anymore unfortunately. Those of us who have been in the biz for a long time, such as yourself, have seen the trials and tribulations of the industry and have seen times when things were changed and when they didn't work were changed back because the MTSOs took the hit too and fixed it pronto.
That isn't going to happen today because no one is held accountable anymore. The suits in these big companies get their paychecks and bonuses regardless of whether the company makes money or not... they just ride the wave until the company folds, take their severance, and move on to their next cushy office.
I really think we could talk until we're blue in the face and it will make no difference. I posted below my ordeal over the past several months working with my wonderful PS in getting my work pool changed, etc., and the answer came down from whomever the head cheese is today... THIS IS THE WAY IT'S SET UP, WE CAN'T CHANGE THINGS. Well, I also know there are execeptions and that they can change things, they just won't.
My PS agrees with me and knows that MQ is losing a very long-time, very good, and very dedicated MT in me and there's nothing she or I can do about it. We tried everything in the book to work something out, but after nine months of fight, the verdict is in today. Can't say I didn't try.
Not only is MQ losing another good MT, the whole MT community is. I'm leaving this industry because it's not getting better, nor do I think it's going to until someone is held accountable for these idiot ideas of something that's supposed to work better when they don't work better, and I'm not going to take the abuse any longer waiting for them to figure that out. I'm worth more than this.
The pay rates from the other companies are disgusting... I started off over 15 years ago at more than they are offering MTs with 20 years of experience today. They don't deserve me either.
MedQuist has been the leader in this industry in the past and used to be looked up to, but in the last several years, they have been the leader in the decline of this industry. Of course I'm saddened about the whole thing, but I'm more saddened for the new MTs coming in who don't have a clue how little they will make or how much they'll be taken advantage of. After working hard to get their schooling, they deserve better too. And the old-timer MTs...well... they deserve the most respect and my heart is heavy most of all for them as they are the ones who built this industry and have had to watch it be destroyed.
Sorry for the rant... guess I'm a little full of P&V today too now that I've done what I could do with MQ and that their choice today gives me no option but to move on... in a way, it's a big relief... just wish they'd have let me know this nine months ago!
