I have only been on this board for a few weeks now but during this time I have seen quite a few reactions to everything that is going on. I have been fighting the urge to post here because I know I will accidentally offend someone here and/or stir something up even though this is not my intention. Before anyone questions it, yes I am an MT and have been for 10+ years.
I am the first to agree that the current changes are hard to swallow, especially all happening at once: shortage of work, change in bonus, cut in ASR pay, nationwide workpool, etc. the bonus change and ASR cuts are very difficult to understand as it hurts our pocketbook, especially when we see our hard earned money go to a 120,000 month salary. I am not condoning this; however, I know I cannot change this decision.
As far as the shortage of work/nationwide workpool I am a bit torn here. I actually work a shift that I never had a huge shortage of work; however, I have always asked to be put on a new account any time I had a shortage of work. I have also worked for a company who used to have a nationwide workpool and while it takes some time to adjust to the new accounts I believe it makes us better transcriptionists.
Yes, our pay will suffer in the beginning but this will improve, it is overwhelming at times to have to look at yet another CP and try to remember all the specifics but I believe we are selling ourselves short to say we cannot do it, not to mention making ourselves look silly fighting amongst each other over this.
I believe we are in control here. We are the ones with the power to make the best quality report possible, we are the ones with the power to decide whether to continue to work for Q or move on and we should be the ones supporting each other with whatever decision each individual finds necessary for their own situation. I personally am staying right now. I have worked for several companies and I have seen good and bad in each one of them I am chosing to focus on the good. When the time comes I am going to walk away from the Q being that much more of a well rounded MT with that much more experience making me an asset to whatever company I may go to in the future. But please, can we stop beating each other up and agree to disagree. |
