Nitpicking

Regarding nitpicking about hours, I think it's reasonable to expect people to stick to their schedule.  Before working from home for MQ, I worked at a small, local transcription agency in-house--we're going back 10 years.  My hours were 9 a.m. to 5:30.  Back then, it was all just cassette tapes. A courier came in with tapes at 9 a.m., and came back at 5:30 to pick up the finished transcriptions so he could drop them off at doctor's offices and pick up the end-of-day day doctor tapes, and the cycle would start over again the next day.  There were 6 of us girls, and we all did our part so that all the work got done and was ready for the courier.

What if 1/4 of our staff were goof-offs or were constantly late?  The work wouldn't get done or would fall on someone else.

It's basically the same concept. There is work to be done, they have x-amount of people they know they need, and they need to be able to count on you. You can't just not show up. You can't just decide you don't feel like working, so maybe later on you'll do it. All this without even notifying a supervisor. We had a thread going where things used to be more flexible, but unfortunately, the bad apples spoiled it for everyone.
