You can't collect unemployment when you're fired. You can only collect unemployment if you're given a lay-off or the company goes belly-up. There are also specifics to those situations as well, i.e. number of hours worked per week, length of time at the job. Each state has its own laws. Don't give out general information when you don't know enough about each individual's situation to comment.
