I really regret taking on a QA position. I was making a lot of money doing transcription and even though it's supposed to be a 'promotion' to do QA, my paycheck almost dropped to half. And the frustrating thing about my job is that too many of the MTs leave blanks when they have to do any kind of research, so then I have to do it. I also have MTs that don't know basic grammar skills or sentence structure and even when I make corrections and send them back to the MT, I see the same mistakes over and over again. Then you get into arguments with the MTs over what's the right way to do things and what's the wrong way and you end up becoming one of those QA people that you hated when you were a MT. I'm actually back looking for another MT job, as they gave all my docs to other MTs when I switched to QA. Again, this is just my experience, but if other QA people have it as hard as this, I'd say to you keep your MT job - less stress and more money and did I mention less stress? =) |
