The Transcription Doctors - Are you kidding? - sm

Posted: Jun 17, 2011

They have an ad on this site hiring at 8 cents and 3 cents for straight typing and editing.  But, on another site, they have an ad for the same exact thing but the pay is 7 cents for straight typing and 2.5 cents for editing!  Are you kidding?!?!?!?!  I hope no one applies for that job, even if you are desperate! So glad I am getting out of this line of slave work.

Attention To Detail - GoldenOldie

One of the largest "must haves" in this business is attention to detail, which obviously is lacking in the above post. Please note, on the other site, the accounts are on DocQScribe and on this site the accounts are on Escription. Apparently TTD contracts with other larger MTSOs for work; I believe the Escription account is with Superior Global. I would be embarrassed posting these "wages." However, there are people who will work for this and think they have a "real job" in this career field. Companies get away paying these low wages because there is always someone out there who will accept these positions, thus dragging down the line rates. Sad how this career field is ending up. The only thing I can say is, one gets what one pays for, and I doubt with these line rates, one will get much - in quality anyway. Fortunately, I work with companies that appreciate experience, knowledge and loyality, and I have my own local accounts.

So long as people apply for and accept these rates, the pay scale will continue to decline.

Heck, I've even seen people willing to PAY for the chance to get their foot in the door as an MT or work for nothing for a period of time. There are a lot of desperate people out there who have maybe no transportation, no other local work nearby, maybe no social support to help with kids, or whatever the situation...and what they don't realize is, well, they are basically prey animals for these predatory companies who take advantage of their naiveness, inexperience, or crappy life situation. It's absolutely sickening.

I applied there... - hmmm

started, and wound up lasting a whole 2 days. The account was horrifically complicated, it was nearly all speech rec, and the QA people practically yelled at me through their emails about all the things I didn't do "right." Not worth 3 cents a line - definitely not work 2.5 cents.

Me too. I assumed for 3 CPL the speech engine had been... - ndmt

trained so it was almost flawless (and was actually told that it was), but the QA picked apart almost everything VR had put in - not critical items, but things like I heard "the" in front of that word. I wasn't adding "the" 20 times to each report for 3 CPL.

Worked there too, terrible exp - GG

I had the worst experience working for them, the QA ripped you apart for the smallest errors that were more formatting and every single doctor and specialty was different and you had multiples of each! It was the most stressful time for me and by the third day I was scrounging for a way out. Thankfully I found one and I was gone. I feel so sorry for people still working for them, they are rude and will throw you under the bus the second the client complains. Transcriptionists are slow and TAT is bad, transcriptionists are not paying attention and quality is lacking, they would never stop! I could go on and on about this company but I don't have all day :)
I was looking for a 2nd job to supplement my primary job... - hmmm

and found a better one so was able to quit TTD.

This is a case in point where people can't be harsh on MTs who post critical reviews of current or past employers. If I had listened to the posts here, rather than giving TTD the benefit of the doubt, I wouldn't have had to take a stressful detour on my job path.

I think it depends on the job and the accounts - sm -

I do not work for TD and never have but I do work for a MTSO that pays 8/3 like the above, though it is not VR it it editing. I make about $2200 a month, so you can make enough to eat, though not like a millionaire. I am happy where I am despite the "low" pay. I have easy accounts and good steady work so don't fuss about not making .10 a line though it is what I deserve. I supplement my pay with another PT job (20-40 hours a month if that) that and that helps with the finances, gets me out of the house too, best of both worlds. I have made less and more at other MTSOs as well. Just depends on the job, accounts and ratio of straight typeing versus the edit, ESL, your proficiency, etc. I applied to TD years ago when I was a newbie but they wanted you to buy their player, though they are a legit company, I think it is outrageous they charge you to use their player, etc. Company software should be provided free of charge. I don't know if they still do that, presume they do though. So there are more pressing reasons to reject working for certain companies, pay is a factor many other things to consider as well.

Wow - 2.5 for editing! That is so horrible they had - seen it all now

to go to another board to post it. MTstars won't allow ads for under 3 cpl. Yay to MTStars.

At 2.5 cpl, the 225 LPH editing most require is only $5.62 an hour! - Min wage is more than that. Geez. nm

Did anyone notice the biggest insult? Independent contractor (sm) - anon

and you better not be a newbie or offshore (these were listed as qualifications at another site).

Well, the world is full of the walking brain dead. I imagine they'll find each other.

Transcription Doctors TTD

To the poster who posted below looking for information on TTD.  They don't have their own accounts.  They work for Superior Global and maybe others.  Superior pays them to find ICs.  They probably pay them 4 cpl and then TTD pays you a cruddy 3 cpl to edit VR reports.  They don't offer direct deposit because Superior is paying them and then they pay you, which is why you have to wait a month for your check.   I would never work for a company that is just bascially an agency hir ...

I accidentally posted this on the main board too so sorry for the repeat post. I saw a post here that TTD was a bad company to work for. I recently graduated form CS and I have been looking for a job for the past 2 weeks. TTD offered me a job without doing any testing and I thought that was odd. I really want to gain experience since but I don't want to work for a horrible place. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! ...

My recommendation is to have any MT who feels her time is valuable to Stay very far away from this company. I am going to be very careful in how I word this.  Company did not pay me correctly.  Our line counts did not match.  Experienced problems with line count accuracy early in employment.  Kept accurate records of line counts (their counts and my counts).  Was only paid 1/10th of first invoice.  Inquired about issue several times, and only when I sent an email to ...
