Unhappy Independent Contractor - SR CEO

This is ScribeRight's CEO writing.

The poster here was hired to work on a long-term project (12-18 months) in which there would be a HUGE load of work. Four weeks into the project, we hit some delays from the client, which meant a short lull in work. It was supposed to just be 2 weeks, but when it turned into 5, all the workers who had transcription experience were given the option to work on MT for that time period so they would not be shorted a paycheck. This was a very fair option that was eagerly accepted by any who could not wait the 5 weeks.

ScribeRight is growing by leaps and bounds, with a variety of work in both transcription and Data Migration, a new field full of opportunity. We are hiring dozens of people over the next 2 months to complete this project, and we anticipate these ICs will make $15 to $20 per hour. There is still a TON of work to do, after this snag is overcome.

However, the nature of being an IC is that there are no guarantees. This is the tradeoff for having the flexibility and other benefits that being an IC offers.

For those who are looking to work for a stable company with a very bright future, ScribeRight has always been and continues to be a very good choice.

I'm a ScribeRight IC - my take on this - anon

I can't speak to the long-term prospects of the company as addressed by the CEO above, but I am one of the ICs hired for this project, and I can tell you that we were in no way misled about the nature of the work and were told when hired that there would be a workload "lull" during the month of December. It was clearly explained to me that no guarantees of continuous employment were being made, and that we should anticipate at least a couple weeks without work during the phases of the project. In my opinion, the OP is being very unfair with the terse and rather meaningless comment she posted about this company. Nothing has happened that wasn't laid out to us. The lull is a little longer than originally expected, but we were warned. I have only been with them a short time, but they have treated me fairly and decently up to this point, so I would not write them off as a bad company based on the "say nothing" post of the OP. Being on the inside of this particular situation, the OP's post has made me more aware than ever to take what you read on this board with a grain of salt, especially the type of comment that was posted that basically told nothing except that the poster was ticked off.
Data Migration? - Looking

Thanks for your input, ScribeRight IC.

Are you doing data migration or MT? What exactly is data migration -- entering data into an EHR program? How much does it pay? Would I apply for one of those positions through regular MT channels or is it separate?

Thanks.
I agree - Scriberight new hire

I have to agree with this! We were all kept abreast of any changes taking place in scheduling, were told of the lull BEFORE ever agreeing to work for them and know that once this is all settled, not only will it be easier to do this job, but is at least a year if very solid work and possibly more after that as they acquire new accounts! I have found everyone I have dealt with there to be helpful and up front about everything taking place. I have a part-time gig that I am picking up more lines on during the lull and am sure while I am enjoying the holidays with my family I will appreciate the down time, especially after the year I have had. If the are still hiring, I highly recommend them to anyone!!!
Apologies - Scriberight new hire

Questions For ScribeRight DMTs
Feb 16, 2012

I have seen a few posts from fellow DMTs on this board (and wish we had the chance to talk while working to ask questions of each other!) and wanted to ask a question of you here on the board.   I have had to send a couple jobs to QA to ask about a med or allergy for which I haven't found a match.  I've noticed the comments are less than complimentary.   Are you finding that comments received from QA are more degrading or condescending rather than helpful?  Or is it just me?  ...

Got A Reply From ScribeRight, Suggestions Anyone?
May 11, 2012

Ok, so I heard some great things about ScribeRight so I sent them my resume via their website. I got a reply back today, asking me a couple simple questions about my skills and also sent 4 files to transcribe (3 sound pretty easy, 1 will be hard for me since I have no experience in that field, Onc). My question is....is it worth it to move? The company I currently work for (and have for many years) is 0.045 SRT/.07 straight typing. My pay scale has consistently gone down the last 2 years (surpr ...

Question For ScribeRight DMTs
Jul 09, 2012

For those of you working as DMTs, are you starting to worry about the scheduled conference call? All of them, it seems have worked hard to be sure things would go well, and we would have work, but this lull is about to do me in. I want to hope for the best, but I am wondering if they are going to let some of us go since they overhired, or let us know the work will either not be coming as scheduled or not coming at all. I guess I am imagining the worst case scenario. What do you all think? ...

ScribeRight - Questions For Current Employees

I've worked here since the start of the DMT project. I was hired by the person in charge of the project, but have had to deal with the CEO a few times during the past few months. I'm wondering - does anyone else have a hard time with the CEO? She seems to be very.... egotistical.
