Let go from IMedX - Not crying

Posted: Apr 24, 2015

I was let go on a Friday afternoon right before a weekend trip.  Apparently I should've chained myself to the computer 24/7 looking for work and neglected my husband and preschooler. Fine with me, it was for the best.  Sad what this profession's come to.

Thanks for sharing - Good luck to you

[ In Reply To ..]
You will probably find a less stressful situation than this business, wishing you well!

Thank you :) - Not Crying

[ In Reply To ..]
Thanks. After this, I'm staying in transcription long enough to pay a few bills off and graduate school. Then on to something better. All companies are the same now :(

Why were you let go, what reason? Did you work - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
when you were supposed to? Did you get your lines and time in for the week? I may not like to flex and I have a life too, however, I am making sure I am making the lines that I need to keep my job. Having a job and having to work outside of my schedule sometimes doesn't bother me as long as there is a paycheck every 2 weeks. A little effort on my part isn't keeping me from living a life outside of my job.

I will not be available 24/7 to make 75 cents - every 20 minutes

[ In Reply To ..]
Xx

I'm not available 24/7 either but I always make my quota with - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
PLENTY of time to do what I want to do and I have never had to work on my day off to make up anything. An hour or two extra out of my day sure doesn't bother me and sometimes it's even for bonus because others don't bother to help out!
Not everyone has that same reality... - Just because
[ In Reply To ..]
You can do that doesn't mean that everyone else could. Some accounts (the one I work on anyway) I'm lucky if I can work a half hour to an hour at a time, and they don't pay me nearly enough to go through the trouble of hitting all my hours. I used to do that when we had a steady flow of work. When you have a primary that barely has work, and no backups because other accounts also don't have work, why should anyone bother? I'm already working outside of my schedule because there is barely anything coming through, if any, during my shift!
I'm not understanding why you can't get a backup. - I never have trouble either (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
because I have several backups. If I have to work an extra hour sometime during the day it doesn't really ruin my day. Different people have different circumstances, I suppose.
First time I asked for a backup, I got no response. - The
[ In Reply To ..]
second time I asked I was told they were looking into and would get back to me...that was over a week ago. I think there is just not enough to go around.
Please be aware - That When You
[ In Reply To ..]
"work outside your schedule" in order to get YOUR lines and quota, you ARE working INSIDE someone else's schedule, and stealing lines from their schedule, making them probably not able to make theirs!! Shameful!! You are given a schedule for a reason! Maybe upper management does not care, but I think the other ladies you are stealing from care!! This has been done to me in the past, and I have to say.... it pisses me off!!!
that's a beautiful philosophy - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
but it's no longer reality in this business.

Sad but true.
Well, of course we are aware. But what do you suggest? (sm) - Usually have work
[ In Reply To ..]
Get off after your set hours and get fired for not making production?
yes,,, - get fired
[ In Reply To ..]
for not making production... then you can collect UE, because you were fired for something that was not of your making. It UE gets involved in all of these so called "companies" that punish you for not making quota, but still do not provide enough work to make quota, then THEY will be in trouble, not you... AND you will not be stealing food out of someone else's mouths! They have a right to earn a living just as much as you... and THEY probably play by the "rules". Stay in your shift... get a second or third job to make up your differences, and let someone else have a chance, as well. The world does not revolve around YOU.
how can it be stealing if ..... sm - no name MT
[ In Reply To ..]
Suppose they have a production of 1000 and they only make 800 during their shift and decide to stay over because they had down time from internet or whatever reason, that is not stealing other people's work because of this fact.... If she had not had trouble and made her production, the work wouldn't be there for the next shift anyway. So in actuality it is not stealing. Now if they work and make above and beyond their production, then you can call it stealing... You cant steal something that should not be there to begin with.
That's not what I did - Not Crying
[ In Reply To ..]
I did work when I had it, and made myself available all day long to check. However 3rd shift is when it stacked up. Sorry, but I can't survive on 3-4 hours' sleep.
Please be aware that until they change the policy - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
and tell me that I can't work "outside my schedule" because I am "stealing work from others" that I will continue to do so in order to make my quota.
So you are working overtime, off the clock? - Shame on you.
[ In Reply To ..]
That is considered stealing from someone else. You should be fired for doing that as well. I hope your supervisor(s) are paying attention when you are online, also that is considered overtime and Imedx does not pay for overtime, especially when there is not enough of work to go around and that is illegal to do! All OT has to be reported, your actions speak volumes about your character.
That is not what she said at all. - Read again.
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Will not read again. - Get over yourself.
[ In Reply To ..]
If working her shift and then working into someone else's shift is OT and stealing from coworkers. Has someone given her permission to steal from others just to make her quota? It is not fair to anyone else and speaks volumes about her character.
You are misunderstanding. OT is time and a half. - She is just getting her requrement in. (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
This is why reading again sometimes helps. Sometimes not. LOL
She also did not say anything about "off the clock." - nm

To All of Those - Who
[ In Reply To ..]
"work outside their shift" just to get their "quota" and disagree that it is stealing and cheating... yes, you are just making "excuses" for why you do it and justifying yourselves. As another posted, it is only showing your character. Nobody should have to "change policy" to dictate morality or character. It should already be built within you and you should follow what is right, not what is "best for YOU." In your own head, you are saying that you are better than everyone else, you have a RIGHT to steal in order to get what you want or perceive that you need, and the rules only apply to someone else, not YOU because you are so much more worthy of it than anyone else. If it was meant that just anyone could work outside their shifts in order to "make their quota" (steal), there would be no shifts at all, just free rein to do and work whenever you want. YOU will fall off that pedestal one day, and I hope it hurts! Making "excuses" for why you are a thief does not make you any less a thief!!
This is simply not true. - nm

If I haven't made my lines or hours for the day I am - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
allowed to work outside my schedule to make up my time. It is NOT stealing from others, it's called being responsible and making up my time.
Exactly... - YOUR time
[ In Reply To ..]
at the expense of someone else's. That is not being "responsible". That is being a thief, taking from someone else to pad your own interests. Making excuses why you do it does not make it right, just because you say so. Stay within your shift to allow others on the next shift to have the opportunity to feed their families, as well. Selfish!
As I said before, we are allowed to make up time - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
whenever we want so until someone in upper managements sends out an email saying it's "stealing from others" than I will continue to do what I need to do to be a responsible employee to make my quota and a decent paycheck and not whine about what others are doing.
Imedx requirements - my2cents
[ In Reply To ..]
The C.O.M.P.A.N.Y. calls it "flexing." Nobody is stealing anything from y.o.u.
It is not y.o.u.r.s.! Nobody is stealing anything from you (as in "you" own it??) We all are supposed to punch in when there is work and punch out when there is no work. If it takes me all day to get my lines in and put a roof over my head and food in my belly, I am going to work your shift, my shift and every shift. Why? Because y.o.u. don't make the rules-the c.o.m.p.a.n.y did. Those are their rules!!!!!!!! It's called "flexing."
That is only - your opinion
[ In Reply To ..]
and you are entitled to it. I have read all of the complaints about this c.o.m.p.a.n.y. in other sections and since they do not seem to be that scrupulous of a company anyway, I guess "flexing" could be added to their cons, as well. Again, your excuses for stealing are very telling of your character. If you like being associated with a company who allows "stealing" to go on, then I guess you fit right in and should be so proud of yourself!! Never said it was M.I.N.E. Just trying to point out a part of you that is f.l.a.w.e.d. Have a good day!
flawed - my2cents
[ In Reply To ..]
Girlfriend, you need to get the log out of your own eyes before you start pointing out the flaws of everybody else. I have many flaws, stealing is not one of them. I also have many blessings and one that I must thank you for reminding me of. That is, I work at home and therefore I do n.o.t. have to put up with drama queen people such as y.o.u.r.s.e.l.f. in an office.
Very well stated and so true! - wl

No respect at all for anyone's work hours. I will deviate an hour or so either way, but beyond that......no for the very reason you so eloquently stated!
Whoopie for you. I will do what I need to do (follow the rules) - to make a living. (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
You do as you please. Some of us CANNOT collect unemployment.
If you deviate for an hour or so either way - Nick
[ In Reply To ..]
isn't that technically just as bad as working a whole shift outside your hours? Interesting how we justify things in our own minds.......
an hour or so either way - Nick - wl
[ In Reply To ..]
Yes Nick, I suppose it is, but it is far better than returning back and forth all day taking work from other MTs scheduled to work. If I work 6 to 10, I try to plan 5 to 11 to get the minimum. It does not always work out....and if it does not, I do not return beyond that because I am thinking of other MTs scheduled to work. That is what I feel is reasonable and is not taking from other MTs.
Meeting minimum requirements-sm - ColtsFan
[ In Reply To ..]
You do realize if there is no work available during your shift and you do not meet your line requirements you will be fired, right? What do you suggest we do if there is not work available during our schedule. By the way, I work third shift so I will have work, but I have run out of work and I will work outside of my schedule if I have to in order to get my required lines. I have to have a job!
Please be aware also - Nick

Is instructing us to do. "If you had to flex earlier in the day, please log on to meet your production...." They are actually TELLING us this is what we are supposed to be doing. I am sure they are telling everyone on all shifts this.

It may not be the "polite" thing to do for others, but our superiors are giving these instructions to the employees.
I understand - That
[ In Reply To ..]
and considering all of the complaints from those that work for them, and the ones that they just "let go," I guess that option of "flexing" is working out really well. Company endorsed stealing...figures. Good luck to you all. Your loyalty is quite misplaced.
Well congratulations... - Nancy
[ In Reply To ..]
It's nice that you have dictators who speak intelligibly, know how to use a pause button and don't leave you sitting through phones calls, conversations with coworkers and chart reviews. I'm happy you have a productive platform and are not required to do multiple Google searches for the spelling of Dr. Padmanabh Karunanidhi or search demographics looking for the correct John Smith. Those who spend the most time searching, are at the highest risk for termination, i.e. the most conscientious. Making production has little to do with MT experience and ability, it has more to do with client specs and dictator capability. Days with all bad dictators can reduce your lines by 75%, where a day with all good dictators can increase it beyond required production. So basically, just being lucky enough to make production is nothing to brag about, just as someone should not be put down for failure to make production.
Kudos! - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Well said, Nancy, kudos to you! Except I'm thinking that "dictator capability" may just be an oxymoron (emphasis on the moron). I do know that if dictators were truly educated on what was necessary to produce pristine documents well within TAT, the MTs could up their production by at least 50%. The companies will never do that, and even if they did, there would still be those dictators who don't give a you-know-what about the MTs. If they are being rude and inconsiderate out of ignorance, that is the fault of the MTSO that does not educate them for fear of losing the business. If they are informed and educated, and still choose to be rude and inconsiderate, I suppose there is little to be done, which is pretty sad. Then, there are those dictators who must have received their degree from a box of cereal or a TV infomercial. You know who they are. The ones who say "no tenderness to palpitation," or "distal pulses 2+ and equal" for a patient with an AKA. Or the ones who won't spell a multisyllabic name which they can't pronounce, either, but will then tell you to copy Dr. Robert Smith, S-M-I-T-H because, after all, he's a doctor. And the beat goes on.

CC to Dr. Smith in New York. When I was an IC I had very good dictators. I informed them of any problems and they corrected them. They were always polite and appreciative. I also produced MUCH higher volumes every day and this included proofing, printing & delivery. All it takes for good production is communication with the doctor. It's so simple!
Ditto so true! - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
They really all do think we live in their state, in their city, that we know the names of their drugstores, and that we are good personal friends with Dr. Smith in New York, lol. You are very fortuante to have been associated with doctors who were appreciative. I think more doctors might be appreciative if the MTSOs would man up and explain the issues to them. But as has been said before on this board, we are out there alone. The companies we work for do not have our collective backs. Such a shame.

Yes when most of that work is in the middle of the night and you spend your entire 2nd shift only making 200-300 lines, monitoring the computer 24/7 isn't an option. So quit being so quick to judge. I'm UNABLE to flex 3rd shift for personal reasons I won't state here. When both accounts are out of work, you can't work. Period.

Well obviously your account didn't require you - Not Crying

Great luck to you! Hope the weekend trip was a good one after getting this termination on a Friday.

I am waiting for mine as well as I will not lie on my time record; work all day monitoring to see if work has come in (as somehow they don't consider that working)and not get paid; punching in and out 30 plus times a day so they do not have to pay minimum wage; switch to some horrendous schedule on an unfamiliar account while learning account specifics on my time (because somehow that's not work-related), because they have sent our familiar work overseas or wherever and now want to stick us with some pitiful accounts that their Indians? don't want to do or can't do, etc.

Criminal is what this profession has come to. They'll reap what they sow sooner or later. Hopefully, sooner.
