How is acusis to work for? I am really scared to go with any of these MTSOs because they seem to want miracles, but I am running out of choices.

that signal a shift to an even higher percentage of our work being offshored to India. Those of us that work there, especially long-timers, are seeing less and less work coming our way.

Our supervisors are very nice, hard-working, and communicative. That is a major plus at Acusis. Unfortunately, workflow control has been shifted to India. So that means you might sit idle during your assigned shift, until your workflow coordinator logs on sometime later, halfway around the globe. Then, they will pester you with constant IMs asking for STAT this, and STAT that, while you're trying to get your regular work done. That has not been a good change, but it seems more of their management seems to be going offshore every day.

Acusis is an Indian MT company. It started in India. A few years ago it bought a smaller American MT company, along with its accounts and MTs. For whatever reason, it appears to be running those accounts, and the MTs that type them, into the ground.

As with other big MTSOs, MT pay at Acusis has been decreasing, not increasing. In addition to a general pay cut a little over a year ago, our pay has also been whittled-at by a slower transcription system, and by changes to the software that doesn't count certain parts of the report we type as something to be paid for. This, combined with sporadic work availability, has been a problem for all of us that work there.

This most recent global meeting, and certain things that were said in the course of it, give me and other MTs who work at Acusis a very uneasy feeling. Something is coming, and my gut feeling is that American MTs might be facing layoffs soon. Acusis is just about to get some new accounts, something they've been telling us for quite some time, now. Only now we find out that all or most of that work is being sent to India, at a time when many of their skilled and hard-working American MTs don't have enough.

To be fair, it's not just Acusis where this is happening. It's happening with ALL big MTSOs. Less work for the Americans, more work for the Indians. I make it a point to read the Medquist board every day, because it appears to be the bellwether for what happens everywhere else. The Q has been sending more of their work to India, and letting its American MTs starve, and I see that happening everywhere else, now, too.

My advice would be this: If at all possible, try your best to find a job where you will be working directly for a hospital, clinic or physician, instead of for an MTSO. If you don't have a lot of time to look (because finding such a job WILL take a lot of time), then take a job with an MTSO, but go into it with your eyes open, and use your NJA (no jobs available) time to continue your search for a better job.

I have seen some posts where people want to know about Acusis. I will tell you what I know and about my recent experience with them. The Human Resources person, Susanna Sovek,is located in Pennsylvania. My supervisor was located in California. The IT folks are in India and the CMT's are all over the place.
