Babbletype? Has anyone worked for them? - SOCKER

Posted: Nov 21, 2012

Babbletype??? Has anyone worked for them? I am looking for part-time work nights and weekends. They replied back to me quickly so a red flag quickly went up.

So you want to bash the company because they are efficient? - just me

NO company can win on this board. Quck or no response, they will still get bashed.

Check the archives, as there is a lot on this company.

Be forewarned that companies also get negative comments from posters who were either not hired or fired.

yeah I would think that would be a good thing - a quick response nm

Why is that a red flag? - Huh?

If I was looking for work and a company got back to me right away, I would be happy. I don't understand why you see that as a red flag...

I applied - 10 minutes later I was hired and within the hour they sent me an email saying that I could bother with the paperwork later and fill out tax forms later, but could I start transcribing immediately. The instructions they sent were pages and pages long yet they wanted me to get on and start transcribing these meeting immediately. That is very questionable. Never in 30+ years have I applied, been hired and asked to work all within the hour and no paper work.

I know nothing of them, but I hardly think that handling communication in a timely manner can be considered a fault.

Seriously??? - MT

You mean to tell me that you think they may not be a good company because they responded to your email in a timely manner??? You can't be serious.

I think you should look further back for more information about this company. It seems awhile back I saw some negative comments about it. Look a month or 2 back.

They pay .17 per minute....that's why they replied so quick. I would wonder the same thing myself.

I kind of understand why she wondered - about that. No worries Socker NM

No explanation needed by Socker. Wondering is good, even on this board. - anon

Seeing a job posted several times is sometimes a red flag, as is too quick a response, or too slow a response. We are all just in the dark and kept there. That is why we all wonder. Stop blaming each other. As to the post of being upset with being hung by a new rope...makes one wonder about society.

its the pay not the speed that should scare you - IAMNT2

This is from their June posting, I belive the first time they posted here. Note the rate of pay.

1.00 per audio minute isn't bad unless they talk fast or are multiple speakers that's 60 dollars for a 60-minute tape, at 100 lines per 10-minutes that is 60 dollars if you get 700, or 800, or 1000 lines it is still 60 dollars and reduces the line rate from 10 to to 8.5 (that's at 700 lines/60 minutes of dictation).

NOW... look at the editing which most of the work, I believe, is editing.
.15 per audio minute x 60 minutes is how much money for editing how many lines? 60 minutes x .15 is 9.00 to edit what might be 600 lines or more.

I don't care for accounts that pay on the dictated minute. There are more fast-speaking doctors out there than slow and when they are paying for the transcription they hardly ever put the phone down while you hear the heels clicking down the hall, walking away, click, click, click, then coming back and resuming the dictation. :D

Hi. I hope you don't mind that I am posting a non-MT transcription-related opening here. Babbletype is a general transcription company focused primarily on the market research space. We have openings for contractors with excellent English language and editorial skills for our QA team.
The work involves a mixture of QA review and proofing of transcript drafts, audio auditing and rework of transcript drafts, and direct transcription work. Overall volume is high and we currently need several individuals to joint the team.
Work is unit paid at good rates ($0.15 to $0.19 per audio minute for review work and typically $1.00 per audio minute for transcription work), and long term. Work is steady and it's certainly possible for qualified people working full-time to a decent income with us.
We are seeking individuals interested in a regular schedule and steady work, typically during the daytime EST. Critical requirements are strong general transcription and editorial skill.
We do test but the tests are not onerous.
Equipment requirements are unremarkable but a good Internet connection is important.
If you are interested reach out to me, Babbletype's QA team supervisor. Please mention QA team in your email! Look forward to hearing from you.

okay. back to the editing. 9.00 dollars for what could be 600 lines. To get your line rate divide 9.00 by 600 and you get 0.015 cents per line for editing, which is what, half the going rate?

Now this isn't exact without having a sample of the work with actual lines produced but I imagine it's a pretty safe estimate.

Say what you want....but its true. - Justme

I was hired in the same manner, emailed, told to start paperwork later and get working. When I am told to skype with someone and they will not show their face on skype............BIG RED FLAG! When I skyped, I could tell she was from another country. No thanks. And to the person who said it was 1.00 per minute.. NOT!! They have tiers and if you are lucky.....you may hit the middle of the road at 40-50 cents per minute, but you should see the stuff you have to transcribe. It would be very time consuming with all the starting and stopping. I am NOT a negative poster and do not ever post on here regularly....so you can take what I say however you wish.

Babbletype And Babbleglass

Babbletype advertised here a couple weeks ago.  Anyone actually worked there and have anything to share?  I noted that the same people own Babbleglass, and according to the Babbleglass website, actively advertise that they can help companies save mony by offshoring work.  So, I wonder what type of work they offer the US transcriptionists?  Do they pay well?  IC or employee?  Do they follow the IRS rules for each?  The reason I'm asking here is to seek answ ...

Babbletype, My Expeience
Jan 23, 2013

I started working as an IC in July 2012 for this company as a QA editor. The pay for average QA work audio minute was 0.17. It would go up with the degree of difficulty. However, the higher rate jobs were not very often and were extremely difficult to hear and took a long time to even QA the horrible mistakes of the DE. In the seven months I worked for them I had maybe four emails from them with errors in my work. I recently had a very, very minor error. It had been since October with no emails ...

Babbletype - Don't Waste Your Time On This Guy
May 30, 2012

Don't waste your time on this guy.  The test is ridiculous, and the pay is peanuts.  They are having offshore "transcribers" type GENERAL AND CORPORATE reports, and we all know how horrible OS "transcribers" are at figuring out the nuances of the English language.  Then the U.S. proofreader is going to have to fix all of the errors.  There will be no money to be made as an editor in this position.  OS "transcribers" can't even get the SOCIAL HISTORY section of a medical report rig ...

BabbleType Bait And Switch
Jun 27, 2012

Hi, all,  Remember the most recent ad that BabbleType placed here at MTStars?  They were practically pleading with MTs and QAs to contact them and clear out their huge back log (tens of thousands of audio files they said). There was no mention of an exam; just contact them and request an assignment.  If you need training to be a QA editor, no problem -- just ask, and they would provide training.  Blah, blah, blah.  The direct quote in the ad was this:&nbs ...

Ad says 0.90 per minute for verbatim transcription.  But when you click on their link to take their test it says 0.25 per minute, which they say translates to a steady income of $100 per week.  They are obviously not gearing their ad toward U.S. transcriptionists as none of us can live on that. ...

COMPANY RESPONSE TO COMPLAINTS ABOUT BABBLETYPE
Apr 23, 2013

Hi. My name is John Feldcamp and I’m the CEO of Babbletype. I’ve been reading this discussion thread over for the first time and have decided to respond to the comments below. I’m doubtful if I’m making the right choice in doing so, since there are certain people who, once they decide you are the enemy, don’t much care about the finer points of what may or may actually not be true. But on the other hand, MT Stars has brought us many great people that have done well ...

Recent (as Of 11/12/2013) Information On Babbletype
Nov 13, 2013

I tested with the company and about 2-3 weeks later, received an email from them stating I had done well on their test and was offered employment as an IC.  In order to test for them, I had to install Google Chrome (making for a total of 4 internet browsers now on my computer).  I felt the testing procedure was a bit cumbersome, but managed to muddle my way through it.  However, the test was a piece of cake, when compared to actually working for this company.  You HAVE to use ...
