Are there any companies still out there that hire for straight typing? - Fed Up

I've given VR a fair shot for close to a year now, but I still type much faster than I edit, so I've lost quite a bit of money since my account went to VR last year. I know that VR is almost everywhere these days, but does anyone know of any decent companies that still have straight typing and are actually hiring right now? I'm looking for acute care and I really don't care if it's IC or employee status at this point. I just want to do regular transcription again.

SoftScript does. I flunked their written test though. I've been out of school for over 15 years and I need a refresher course I guess.

Patient First is only straight typing. Hard to get in but worth it if you can.

I was on their web site and I don't see anywhere to apply. I don't even see any MT openings. I would like to get them my resume even if they're not hiring, but I don't even see an email address to send it to.

AFter getting into PF website, click on job posting on the left. Then search open positions. Transcriptionist job is posted under administration jobs. There is an ongoing post from 01/28/14 as we are continually hiring more and more. Click on the medical transcription posting and it will list all the qualifications. Scroll all the way to the bottom and click on apply now. It will take you to where you fill out the application and take the test. No kidding when I say the test is hard but I don't consider myself to be a "great" transcriptionist and I got in. So good luck. Let me know if you have any problem getting through the process.

I consider myself computer literate, some of my friends even call me geeky because I love tech stuff so much, yet I am human and I know I can overlook things. I am glad the other person chose to help rather than demean the poster. MT is in such a sad state, we really should band together, not tear each other down.

suffering? What is it you need compassion for? As for being computer literate, it was your defender who suggested you might not be. I was merely commenting on the sequence of events. You asked for a company who did straight typing. You received a response. Came back then and wanted to know how to apply. Having visited the website several times, I knew the instructions were clearly posted. I asked why someone would post such a detailed response when the instructions were quite clear. When defender stated you might not be computer literate, I responded sarcastically from the viewpoint of an employer. Hope you get a job you like. Peace.

inadequacies, perhaps you should brush up on your reading and comprehension skills. I merely pointed out that you could have responded with compassion rather than meanness to the poster, but apparently that is not within your skill set. I haven't heard anyone before say that they do straight typing for Nuance - there can't be very many who do since Nuance invented Dragon and needs to use it as much as they possibly can.

I work on a straight transcription account at Nuance and love it! My friend recently applied and she is also interested in straight transcription. She was told that there are several accounts still using straight transcription and that there were several openings.

I have over 15+ years experience but stopped working in November of 2010 to be at home with my two young boys and give them my full attention. Now that they are both in school, I am wanting to start back typing again. I have looked on several sites but mostly all I find is VR or SR jobs, which I despise. I personally, am getting really tired of the posts regarding "who is the best company to work for, who offers straight tying as ooposed t to VR etc. I now worK for a company that is straight typing only and pays weekly. and pays a decent wage. Got new accounts for the last 2 weeks that are not ASR (yet) so have been doing about 90% straight typing. I have been averaging about $20 more per day than when I do ASR. I have a pretty good and accurate typing speed, which has made me pretty good money in the past. Then along comes VR. I have had somewhat success with it, if the right dictation is placed on it. The problem comes in when a company tries to put anything and everything on VR that does not belong there. It defeats the purpose of using it in the first place. I used to love my job, being an at-home medical transcriptionist. I used to make around $20-25 an hour straight typing and thought being an at-home medical transcriptionist was the best job ever! The flexibility of working from home and flexing my hours was great!
