Amphion - thinking about applying - anon

Posted: Aug 25, 2011

I'm thinking about applying.   How are they to work for?   Do they run out of work often on their accounts?   How often do they pay?   Would like to get some current info on them.

Pay is 10th and 25th of the month. I have very rarely run out of work, maybe once a month. I personally feel that it is a great company with wonderful people, but remember that everyone's experience will be different. My experience has been nothing but good, and I love my job. It very much depends on what team you are on when you get hired, though.

Thanks! - anon

Thanks for the info! That helps a lot. It does sound like a pretty great company.

Do they pay for spaces? - also interested

I have read in some older posts that they don't pay for spaces. Is that true?

Yes, there are some platforms that pay for spaces at Amphion.

I didn't get paid for spaces - at Amphion

[ In Reply To ..]
I haven't heard of one MT that does either.

I don't get paid for spaces, but honestly, I don't feel that as much as I thought I was going to. I honestly am making more here than I did at a national that paid more per line and paid for spaces, partly because I feel the platform is more user friendly, and maybe the accounts are easier. I can easily average around 500 to 600 VR lines per hour if I aim for that, and have never felt as though the not being paid for spaces has been limiting. I was hesitant when I was told they pay on visible black character, but am glad that I didn't let that keep me from taking the job.

Go for it. They are a great company. Pay is comparable. There is a line count minimum for PT or FT. PTO and other benefits are paid per production. There are 5 teams each with their own accounts. I am on one team with 2 accounts. Some MTs are on more than one team also. Wintertime, the work slows down a bit. Spring, summer, fall it is steady. Summer is busy, sometimes get approved for OT but not always. Any MT can work up to 40 hrs/week and they are usually fine with it, especially now with the workload being high.

However, basically Memorial Day thru Labor Day, do not plan any time off unless you ask way in advance. June, July, August, and even Sept is really busy. Jan, Feb not too much. It seems when the weather is nice, that is when the work comes in b/c most MTs are on vacation and then when everyone is back to school/wintertime and all hands are on deck then the work slows down.

You can use PTO if it's slow or you may flex your time and work when it's busier. They are pretty flexible. TAT is 24/7 for most clients so weekends are required in your permanent schedule, either Sat or Sun. Keep that in mind if you are looking for a M-F 9-5 job, you won't get that with Amphion. Pay depends on tiers. They do have an incentive also if you go over so many lines then you get paid the next tier up. Running out of work is hard to say. It really depends on what team you are on, what account(s) you have, and what time of year it is. I was very slow to get lines when I started in March my first year and asked for a 2nd account and now I'm steady or overflowing :-) You can also switch your schedule 2 times a year pending approval. Some MTs have 1 schedule for winter and 1 schedule for summer or during the school year or whatever. That is just my experience. I can't speak for other Amphionites. And no they do not pay for spaces. And it is mostly SR/editing and very little straight typing. Keep that in mind too. That platform has been worked on quite a bit and is getting better as well. But the benefits and atmosphere and the people are great.

Good luck.

weekend scheduling - GeeWhiz

[ In Reply To ..]
If you do clinic work, how is your weekend work scheduled since most clinics do not turn in reports over the weekend?

My workload... - SP

[ In Reply To ..]
I do acute care. Fridays and Saturdays for me are usually discharges, ERs, ambulance, H&Ps, so yes I do have work all weekend. Clinic notes still come in if TAT has not been met or certain doctors dictate their whole week on Friday and then I get them all at once. So clinic notes do still come in on weekends, it depends on the client I guess.

A couple things to add - destinyisntfree

I didn't have a problem getting a day off during the busy times, although I did ask for it well in advance, but that may vary by team, too.

I am on the busier team, and we have definitely not had a shortage of work so far, but it is still technically summer, I suppose, and I started in January, so haven't had a full year here yet.

From what I have heard from other MTs on my team, the winter slowdown is not as bad for us, because one of our accounts is in an area where most of the northerners go when it gets too cold, so we will see how that one pans out.

Every experience is different for every team... - SP

I just wanted to be realistic in my response to the OP. I did not mean it to come across that we never get time off, I just meant that it may be harder. My experience on my team/accounts is that summer is super busy and they always ask for extra help and then come winter I'm literally NJA on Saturdays for sometimes hours. I either take PTO if I have enough accrued again or I flex, it's fine.

I love Amphion. I just wanted to let the OP know certain things about the company before she applies. I hope she does. I'm not saying my experience with them is bad or anything to that effect, just that there are ebbs and flows just like with any other MTSO and I know I was worried about work flow before I started here as well. My account is all northern so when the "snowbirds" go to AZ or FL, then my work flow dies down a bit especially if there is a bad blizzard. But usually I am always busy with acute care and ortho and babies being born. Every team is different, that's all I wanted to explain to her. :-)

And if I came across as defensive, I apologize. I am fighting a massive migraine that I have had for several days, and it is definitely not fun. Comparatively speaking compared to some other places I have worked...namely the big T and the big N that keep buying up others, this is definitely one of the better ones!

I just got hired at Amphion and I am super excited to get started! The people I have talked to so far have been incredible and really seem to care about their employees. It is such a refreshing change from the last nightmare I worked for (ATSI), where I still haven't been paid for work done almost 3 months ago.
RadMT..please let us know how you like it - Poor MT

I'm dying to know how radiology is with Amphion now.... I didn't have enough work and left. It was all editing too, not one single typing account. so please let us know how it works out!

It will be editing, that much I know already. At this point, after not being paid for the last few weeks I worked for ATSI and not having a job since July, anything is better than nothing at all. I'm just grateful for the opportunity to join this company that I hear such great things about. All I am waiting on now is to hear from the trainers about when they will be available to train me.
Former ATSI-er myself, glad you got out. Welcome to Amphion!!! - SP

You'll love it!
ATSI - RadMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I was there until the 3rd missed paycheck, unfortunately. I am still owed almost $500. ATSI will be no more as of close of business tomorrow. They are shutting the doors. The Florida DOL is involved and it's quite ugly. It is sort of hard to pay your employees when the IRS freezes your assets due to unpaid taxes. You would think they would have seen that one coming.
No prob destiny...it's all good. Feel better soon. nm - SP

Amphion sounds pretty good... - caffeinatedmom

I am interviewing with Amphion tomorrow, and I really appreciate reading this discussion. I have worked for a very small MTSO for the past several years, but they've been running out of work and I need to find something else at this point. Compared to my other choices right now (Nuance, MQ), I think Amphion sounds pretty good, but I'll make sure to ask about accounts that run out of work. Not excited about VR editing either but any work is better than no work. Thanks for all the input here!

Applying For Job
Jan 10, 2011

Okay, this is somewhat of a strange situation.  I have been looking for a job in the field that I was in prior to becoming an MT 11 years ago, which would be a full-time position with benefits.  Currently I am IC.  I had lost my previous job due to downsizing and the office/company that I worked for basically closed it's Wisconsin branch except for a handful of employees.  I just found out that one of the employees at this small Wisconsin branch of the company that I use ...

Done Applying For MT Jobs

Be Very Careful When Applying To SoftScript
