I was laid off from my in-house position 7 years ago and was making $18 and change, 3 weeks vacation, no-cost excellent health insurance, paid holidays, no weekends. In hindsight, it cost the hospital a bundle to employ us, so that's probably why we were all outsourced. So, I wouldn't push for too high an hourly rate. It all depends on the prevailing cost of living in your area, your state's min. wage, etc.
