My local holistic doctor has refused to take any insurance anymore, and her approach is to spend time listening to her patient and finding the source of their problem and not simply treat the symptoms. There are pros and cons to that, but I think more single practice doctors will change the way they take care of their patients and get away from trying to make insurance companies happy. By the way, she has a super busy practice now and that tells me that her patients enjoy having a doctor actually look them in the eyes while listening.
