1. Many that are staying are doing so because they have worked in the field a long time and have retirement to think about.
2. Many don't have the ability to work outside the home so those "better" jobs are not readily available.
3. Of those that have been in the same field for years, retraining for another field is not practical as retirement age approaches.
4. Fear of the unknown versus staying with the fear that you know (Nuance).
It takes a certain level of empathy to understand that some people aren't as quick to make life altering moves as others are. Home situations can be very different and nobody should judge those that are remaining. They obviously have their reasons and I for one wish them well.
Don't forget, the villain of this story is the company that profits from the slave wages and obscene working conditions they impose on MTs in this country and overseas.
