It originated when Ronald Reagan was president and issued a proclamation naming the second week in May national medical transcription week, and yes some “biddies” at AAMT lobbied to make it happen. At least you get chapstick and recognition, the facility where I work no longer has an MT department so there is nothing to celebrate. Back in the day we paid for our luncheon and prizes out of pocket so it could be worse and if your employer ignored it my guess is that you would complain about that too.
