I have scoped before and was paid better. - MTfor years Posted: Feb 19th, 2018 - 4:20 pm In Reply to: Legal Transcription - Della Street
and that was using the editing version of the court reporting program, not hand typing. I didn't take any certification test or a timed typing test. I learned on the job. Granted I was going to school for CR at the time, but still. It is limited to NJ (I believe), so that probably eliminates most of us.
For someone learning how to type legal transcripts, they will be slow in the beginning and $1 a page won't be paying any bills.
How clear is the sound? Is there a lot of testimony talking over each other? Some things to consider.
Even as a scopist I had to devote lots and lots of hours dependant upon how well the court reporter wrote.
I enjoyed scoping and I was even a legal word processor typing deposition summaries, but it is still a word and sound game no matter how you break it down.
I would try for the job if I wasn't in the wrong state. It might be better than MT work.
To each his own...
