MTSO conditions and outreach - MTs for Change

Posted: Feb 8th, 2018 - 9:39 am

This post is to notify MTs of activity within the industry.  It is not a solicitation to sell anything, troll contra MTStars opinions or positions, or to entice others away from MTStars.  We are all working toward the same goals.  It is news that MT/Es are entitled to have; they have a right to choose to act on it if they want to.   To block it is blocking freedom of speech, and being unnecessarily territorial and distrustful. It is no different than reporting what is going on at Nuance or iMedX or AHDI or AHIMA or Best Buy.  Participants here have reported widely on the dissatisfaction with conditions in MTSOs and transcription associations.  They deserve to know this information as an opportunity to improve those conditions.  If others do not agree, they do not have to read it or act on it.

Last week, the Medical Transcription Coalition (MTC) (google it) mailed a letter to Medical Transcription Service Organization (MTSO) company CEOs across the country.

The letter references the MT exploitation petition at change.org, which is pinned to the top of MTStars. Though there are many improvements identified in the petition and the letter, found on the MTC website, it focused first on the universal need for an increase in wages.

The letter is also extended to healthcare facility CEOs and hospital organizations.

AHIMA and AHDI have also been contacted and sent the letter.  While they have been sympathetic to working conditions in the past, they have declined to take any active role with employer labor relations. The MTC indicated that this position is not acceptable, as silence or neutrality is acceptance, participation, and complicity with oppression. We must all act together.  Press coverage is being sought.

Individual MT/Es are invited to add their voices of support to this outreach effort by contacting their MTSO management, referencing the outreach letter that they were sent.  A suggested time frame to do this is during Telecommuter Appreciation Week, February 25 through March 3, 2018.

Conditions do not improve on their own.  Individuals must speak up if they want change.
