16k per year still beats minimum wage in my state - part of the problem

If I had to chose between 15,080/year, which is 40 hr/week at 7.25/hr with having to buy clothes for work and gas for commute vs 4 cpl as an IC, I'd pick slave labor MT wages. I'm guessing I'm not alone.
