My dad worked on the line at one of the Big Three. Being part of a union, they would get raises during bargaining. Sometimes they would have to go out on strike if bargaining talks broke down. There was no money coming in during a strike. So when the dust settled and a raise was agreed on, my dad would say, "So, what - now the price of bread will go up a quarter." And he was right.
