M*Modal Today's Top Viewed: Who has Canadian accounts now?.. (Views: 52)

Did you guys know that India has 98% of our - nonadministrative work?

Posted: Dec 29th, 2017 - 10:11 pm

Any of you skim through the India employee handout?  Says 98% of "nonadmistrative" work is in India.  98%!!  Our headquarters are in Tennessee.  14 (IIRC) other offices located in India, with a few in the UK, Belgium, and Canada.  I thought that was interesting.  So that leaves 2% of production work divided up between us, the UK, Belgium, and Canada.

The Indians even receive a "marriage" benefit, lol.  Sorry, I thought that was funny in a sad kind of way.  Wish I had gotten one of those!

At any rate this just made me sad tonight.  I was wondering how many of us are aware of what is going on with MModal globally.  I was clueless until I was in Inner Circle and happened upon the handbook tonight.   I don't think I have revealed any company secrets by posting this here tonight; seems easy enough to research for anyone so inclined.

I will say this.  The US MTs are professionals who are probably better at transcribing for English-speaking doctors than anyone else, except of course Canadians and those from the UK.  I can't help but wonder if their work is being sent to India out from under them, too.

There is no excuse for the underpaying, micro-managing, and otherwise stripping away of incentives and benefits and other little signs of appreciation happening in the past decade.  If you value your US MTs, you should treat them just as well as your 98% of Indian MTs.  I am sad to learn that we are such a small percentage.  I had hoped that more US hospitals were insisting on keeping their medical records on US soil.  I am wondering now if that is pretty much all the work we are getting (those insisting on not being offshored), except perhaps the new accounts that need to be sold on us before they are offshored.  And maybe there is a percentage of US QAs being kept busy checking all the offshored work (?).

Because the thing is, how they are managing to succeed with India based MTs when it comes to quality is a complete mystery to me.  Do they rely on US MTs to QA it all?  Does anyone know?

Anyway, many of you may already know this and I am late to the game.  Happy New Year to all of us.  May 2018 guide us into productive places where we all well compensated and appreciated as the professionals/language specialists that we all are.  I am still convinced there are places in the US where these skills are of value, even if it is now with legal firms and nonmedical industries.  Does anyone think this will turn around?  I don't really want to talk politics, but anyone at MModal QA'ing the work have any thoughts on this?  Any supervisors who might want to remain nameless?  Ideas?  Thoughts on where this is heading for better or worse?  What would you guys do?

Best to you all!
