A lot of work has been outsourced to the big guns, MModal and Nuance. There are some smaller companies, but very few offer employee status and none that I would personally recommend (for employee status). In Canada, MModal and Nuance hire ICs. There are still some openings in hospitals, but they are much rarer. There is a notable exception for the province of Manitoba. Manitoba does not go for outsourcing of hospital transcription work. It is still done inhouse. If you plan to relocate, Manitoba may be your best bet. Might not be what you want to hear. Other provinces, there may be openings, but they are rarely full-time.
