but Houston's cost of living is 2% higher than the national average (Sperling's). Compared to San Francisco or New York it's fairly cheap, but if you're only making $12/hour you can't survive. You'll be living in a bad part of town and paying $800+/month for a studio apartment. Not to mention the traffic, toll road costs, hot/humid, floods, high property taxes (if you can afford a house), etc. Not for me.
