It's really weird to me that everything is upside down.
In the old days, EVERY abbreviation was expanded. That was to: (1) Avoid confusion with meaning of abbreviations. (2) Prevent the medical record from looking like alphabet soup. (3) Increase the line count for the MTSO, who billed the client by the line.
And, of course, it was great for us MTs since we were paid by the line.
Given the death grip these MTSOs have on the almighty dollar, I can't believe that they did a 180 on #3. MORE LINES for them means MORE MONEY for them.
