We have the Time - MTs for Change

Posted: Dec 5th, 2017 - 2:07 pm In Reply to: No time for this foolishness. The main threat to our jobs is technology - and you cannot stop that.

Regarding technology, there are plenty of organizations either hospitals, clinics or private practice that have SR for their docs that still use MTEs, because it makes no sense for an MD at their rate of pay to spend time dictating and then spend almost the same time or more, reviewing and editing. Some will try, and some will abandon. I seriously doubt we will ever reach a technology point where a doctor dictates and then walks away from it. Offshoring happens, but in all of these years why are we still here? If offshoring were the total wonderful solution it was cracked up to be, we'd be entirely gone right now.
Transcription companies who outsource have great sales staff to pitch to administrators with rosy promises. Get a better onshore worker formed MTSO salesperson with less CEO/mgt/overhead to pay to sell better than that on the risks and benefits of offshoring, and the benefits of using US workers at competitive rates but with better wages, better quality, better production/turnaround, security, privacy, local and national economy better supported, etc Think about adding in some other services to make them more attractive, virtual assistant, scribe, etc.

Lets talk about not getting MTs to join and organize. Do you see the problem? The lambs passively keep going to slaughter. There is nothing to lose by petitioning and going to a free site and getting your numbers together to advocate existing MTSOs to make changes, administrators to stop patronizing, and starting their own ideal and/or worker MTSOs to compete. If you are going out, you're going out, why go out in silence, take a chance and ask, but asking individually won't help, and if you don't have access to coworkers at work, you have to get it in a group like this or somewhere and then request together at the same time. AHDI isn't doing that and they charge a membership fee. So find and form the group who will. You don't get fired for requesting better conditions once you define what those conditions are (in MT coalition website). How you ask, request, demand is all in the collaboration technique, which does not have to equate to a union.
We may also find an existing patriotic MTSO owner on the fringe, who likes the cost savings ideas of self directed work teams, contributing cost savings ideas, with less overhead and mgt salaries, who has happier and productive workers contributing more to the company to make better profits and better pay. The Costco type CEO who doesn't need to make megabillions and believes in living/market wages.
Get your cooperative freelance/worker MTSOs up and running if the larger MTSOs balk. Work up some publicity. Brainstorm other ideas.
From all the negativity on this site, it makes you question if there aren't some trolls deliberately sabotaging beyond those who just feel unempowered, burned out, and bitter. We hope to see people someday at the site contributing to a better tomorrow, and breathing life into this site and others for the same goal.
