I'm afraid that, increasingly, even if a relatively compacted industry survives, a whole lot of good, skilled editors finding themselves newly unemployed are not going to be able to get another job. Besides less work left over after the computers take their swipe at it, reports can now be outsourced to English speakers in 150 nations around the planet.
Another argument for those trying to stay in this line of work (better have GOOD reasons, like literally being too old or sick to get hired out there or homebound providing 24/7 care to another) to be careful about changing employers.
