Pay for meetings - lynlou Posted: Nov 4th, 2017 - 6:02 pm In Reply to: Mandatory Meeting - Astros fan!
At one company I was to work for as an IC, the second day I was scheduled to work, there was to be a meeting. When I asked whether we would be paid for meeting time, I was told the meeting was not mandatory, just an informational meeting, a meeting where I would have been introduced as a new contractor nonetheless. As I now have little to no tolerance for bullshit, I said if I was not paid to attend the meeting that I would not attend, that my time was as valuable as the person who was organizing the meeting (who was an hourly employee). The first day I was scheduled to work, there was no work to assign to me apparently, only more difficult dictators and that they did not want to start me on that. I told the manager that I have been an MT for a long time, that I would do whatever work was assigned to the best of my ability knowing full well that the work that would be done to start would face full review. I had cleared my schedule to try this new job. These two things happening were definitely a bad omen. Those things were enough for me not to continue on with this company.
