If that does not work, you may have to power off and reboot by holding power button down until system shuts down. Newer systems protect vital data I have found (been there done that~). If you have laptop, trying taking off battery and using power cord to kick it into recognizing commands. I am not an expect but did in the past working 3-11 shift on Friday nights up all night many times due to computer issues.
