McAfee, for instance, now has two social media intelligence certifications and some short courses in this area as well.

You only have to open your mind and consider the world we live in today to realize that people are "living" much of their lives in the virtual world of social media, and couple that with the many reasons that there might be an interest in discovering information that people have revealed in social media.

I don't really think it takes a rocket scientist to analyze the likelihood that people trained in this area would have work, even if it doesn't happen to be a "traditional" job pathway. As the world changes, many traditional jobs are diminishing or disappearing (do we need anyone to tell US that??!!) while nontraditional jobs are on the rise.
