Regarding TAT - sm

I could be wrong, but I've always wondered if these instantaneous TATs are a result of salespeople who are competing for business:
"We can give you a TAT of 4 hours!"
"WE can do it in 3 hours!"
"Not so fast, fellas. WE can do it in 1 hour or less!!!"
"Wait! WE can do it before the doctor even finishes dictating! Pick US, pick US!!!"

...ad infinitum. Just like an auctioneer.

Remember when a DS had a TAT of 48 hours? An OP 12 hours, a consult 6 hours, an H&P 1-2 hours? A stat will always be a stat, but who made up the other TATs? Was it Joint Commission?
