I think there could be some harm in believing in karma. - sm

As in expecting the laws of karma or universal justice or whatever to just "take care of" a problem and thus not taking any proactive measures oneself.

Possibly some psychological benefit too, however self-deluded, in terms of just letting go of what can't be handled at all, like you said, but again, believing in karma may lead to a loss of effort when something actually *could* be done about the issue in the here and now.

Like the poster Realist stated, I can't even begin to believe in a universal system of checks and balances considering how many innocent people get shat on for no good reason, while so many awful ones get by with murder, literally and figuratively.
