I am enrolled at Andrews right now, and am about halfway through the coding course, in addition to a FT job (60+ hrs) and a couple of PT MT things. I lost my major PT account a while back, and coding seemed to be the next logical thing.
I have seen things where they offshore/outsource and are getting 70% accuracy, and are okay with that because of throughput and cost per dollar of revenue generated.
I think coding will go the way of MT, also. But that's an opinion, and I don't have a foot solidly in either MT or coding at this point.
As the boomers (continue to) age, there will be an increased requirement for the hands-on aspects of patient care. If it can be done remotely, it can be offshored.
