True and add age into that mix and well here I am - MT Posted: Aug 30th, 2017 - 11:11 pm In Reply to: Never thought about gender - Jellybean
In this day and age things are the same if not worse than years ago. We are expected as women to support households and even families but are not given the wage a man does to begin with. Add minority, age, and personal struggles (which everyone has) and forget it. That is why I believe that by our struggles we will somehow face a good Karma down the line for all we have been through. I think of when I was first a medical transcriptionist back in the 90s and I taught the SAT which was also looked highly upon. The head of the SAT, the Kaplan people were amazed I was in transcription. They really respected that work. Even just the other day, my ex's neurologist said he was impressed I was a transcriptionist and he wanted me to do work for him (I had typed for him through the hospital years ago) and then he said I'd be too expensive. I said to him, "Trust me, I wouldn't be expensive... you have no idea." Docs think we are paid a fortune. I'd like to know how we have gone from such highly regarded skilled women who were once worth weight in gold to paupers and yet the docs are lemergency department to believe we are too expensive. So much has been going on here behind the scenes in the manipulation of our business by MTSOs, hospitals, the doctors and WE don't even realize how we got to this point. Anyway, my heart goes out to you and all of us. I am also grateful for everyone's comments as it has helped me so much today. We are all in this together and we have to remember our value!
