I've had the same experience as you trying to find work. This is my 7th month without a job and I check listings daily. I have 30+ years multi-specialty experience and excellent references. I won't work for less than 8 CPL and will not do editing at 3 or 4 CPL. That is what has happened to our profession. Perhaps we are being undercut by newbies who wouldn't listen to our warnings. Perhaps it's age discrimination. It could be many things, but most likely a lack of jobs.
You asked a specific question and deserve an answer. The bully should be ignored as all she wants to do is stir it up.
