Basically stating that you are to communicate with your manager if you are not working. Failure to communicate an absence for 2 consecutive days could be considered abandonment. This is not out of the norm for anywhere I have ever worked. If you do not show and do not communicate, you could be fired. Let's face it, there are people who would try to take advantage of this situation and they need to know it could lead to termination.
