I've been doing MT for almost 20 years and have seen my pay drop from $45K/year to $15K last year. I'm now working for a "competitive" rate of 0.035 cpl for VRE and can't get above $8/hour no matter how hard I push myself, no PTO, no bennies. If I had something like teaching to fall back on I would do it in a heartbeat! At 59, I'm not excited about going back to school, but I really have no other choice. Even McDonald's turned me down ($10/hour) as I had no experience and minimum wage here in TX is only $7.50/hour; I can't live on that unless I'm working 2-1/2 jobs.
