Widespread compatibility and ability to use the number and symbol keys, and even the top-row function keys, in short forms were the reasons I chose it.
IT caught up with compatibility a long time ago and has some nice features its users appreciate, but you lose something like 30 "extra" keys to use in short forms.
For instance, I'd already used the O + all the #s on the row above for important expansions, so I assigned "o + F9" (F9's above the O) to back up to the last word and insert ", or" in sentences.
