same thing. However, I just listed the companies and just put the last known info I had about the phone numbers/supervisors. I explained in my cover letter the company that was no longer. I got the interview. They said they would "probably just call the other company I have listed" but turns out they didn't even do that. I'm not saying all companies will NOT call, but I think if you just explain the situation they will understand. It seems you do have at least one company they could call.
