If employee, contact EEOC for their opinion. I experienced same situation years ago. I asked to work flexible/split Sunday shift to attend worship service, but employer refused. I contacted EEOC. Shortly afterwards, manager contacted me that I could work split shift on Sunday. I worked 6-9 a.m./1-6:30 p.m.

Management never mentioned that EEOC contacted them. Employee cannot be reprimanded or fired for contacting EEOC.

If employee's request does not create hardship for employer, then they must comply.
