RN does not equal MT - anon

Posted: Apr 24th, 2017 - 2:07 am In Reply to: Old RN--New MT?? - Ruth

I mean no offense by the statement I'm about to make--I have respect for what it took to earn your RN, 2 or 4 year program. But speaking from what I've observed in the past 25 years, RNs do not do well as MTs. We speak different languages. Whereas you can chart a doc's orders in nothing flat and read it back just as quickly, when it comes to typing out the meds, the diagnoses, and so forth, it becomes a new ballgame. You know the words, of course, for the specialty you're most familiar with. Same goes for meds, etc.
Bottom line, though, is the bottom line. You will never, ever get anywhere near the same earnings as an MT that you became accustomed to as an RN. And it wouldn't be as easy a switch as you might think.
