You can have simultaneous FMLA leaves. For example, you can have an approved protected leave for your serious medical condition and have approved protected leave to care for a parent. There is a separate form that would need to be completed by your mom's physician. The total of 12 weeks can be split between the two conditions. The forms do not go to the DOL even though they are DOL forms. The forms are returned and stay with the employer.
