There are other issues that can cause this message to appear. Take note if any error code is given and Google it. Look for articles from Microsoft and read those, perform any fixes/procedures they recommend. I have one article from Microsoft linked below.

Hope this helps. Try the second link first since it has the simplest solutions to try first before messing with the registry in the first link provided. Messing with the registry is a loaded gun with a hairy trigger that can have dire consequences for someone who does not know what they are doing. Good luck and post back about progress. I have dealt with this problem myself with a genuine Windows copy, but I dont remember what I did to correct it.
