If you have dependents, apply for food stamps. No joke. I did this about 2 years ago and looks like I'll be doing it again. It was awful and I hated it. Almost cried when I used my card the first time, but without that money, my kids would not have eaten or bills would have been unpaid. I live frugally too...own my not-so-great car so no car payment, only shop sales for my kids' clothes (relied on Goodwill for years to clothe them), not TV watches so no cable, no vacations/trips EVER,etc. There is nowhere else in my budget to cut in order to make ends meet. I am so DISGUSTED. Good luck! I hope I can find another job soon that doesn't make me want to cry just by thinking about it.
