Does the job get to you emotionally sometimes? - rogue_cricket

Posted: Feb 22nd, 2017 - 11:30 am

Sometimes it makes me feel just emotionally drained - like I don't even want to open this laptop, hearing all the awful things that happen to these people.  It especially bothers me when it is a child - my children are 7 and 10.  Had a report last night about a little boy that bothered me so much I had to go crawl in bed with my son and hold him and thank God he is healthy.  Every now and then there is that one report that just weighs on me for days.  It's hard striking a balance between caring about the patients enough to understand these aren't just lines I'm getting paid for, but people's lives, and being able to tune out just enough to be able to do my job effectively.
