I make 0.05 cpl at MModal but most ICs make 0.04 cpl - ...am I missing something?

I am a full-time employee at MModal and currently make 0.05 cpl for editing (I do mostly all VR editing). I get benefits here which for me mostly amount to semi-decent PTO, sick time, and of course a discount on my health insurance through them (I am single and their premium is lower than what I was quoted on Healthcare.gov).

So basically I am wondering if I am missing something because how the heck do I make more than most ICs I see on this board if I am employee status? How do people afford their own health insurance if they make less and also have to put aside money for taxes? It doesn't add up to me but I might be missing something. I would love to be IC but I assume I would be making less money and I can't afford that so I am a slave to MModal.
