You can tether your laptop to your phone for access, but that will almost certainly be too slow (and even an "unlimited" plan might get yanked).

Hotels are not by any means the only wifi hot spots available.  You can find large lists available by searching relevant terms like "list of public wifi" etc, such as the one linked below from LifeHacker.  In that article, notice the link to another article about maintaining security when using hot spots, and follow the recommendations.

Another option, if you're traveling in a motor home, is to install a satellite dish.  However, you'll need to research access plans (just like phones) and you should also insist on a chance to test the speeds available before making any investment.

Unfortunately, our work requires both decent speed, a fairly large data allowance and long connect times (some wi-fi hot spots limit time online).  That makes the situation very difficult.

It could be easier if you weren't transcribing but instead perhaps doing QA, which might be less demanding on connection speeds and data consumption.
