that there are other careers to which the poor, downtrodden, displaced fast-food workers can aspire, right? There are thriving businesses that cannot expand because there are not enough people who are willing to put in the effort to acquire the necessary skills to fill the jobs, even when the necessary training is provided at the expense of the employer. There is no shortage of jobs. There is a shortage of people willing to make the effort to acquire the skills to do them.

Just look at the excuses made here by people who cannot make a living as MTs but simply refuse to consider going to the effort of making themselves available to another employer (won't move, won't leave home to work, won't get training, won't, won't, won't).

Life isn't a zero-sum game. The jobs of the future will be nothing like the jobs available today. Trying to put the genie back in the bottle never works.

Instead of whining about progress changing the status quo, we would all be better off embracing the possibilities and getting busy making ourselves ready to fill the jobs that will be in demand.
