at age 56 - newbie at coding? - Reality Check Posted: Nov 12th, 2016 - 5:55 am
I have been an MT for 25 years. My job itself has been very stable all this time, but no raises of course, ever. I researched coding for 2 years and decided to make the change. I am still in school, but now after joining a few Facebook groups and reading about experiences with jobs, no jobs, contracts, etc., I am seriously thinking I need to stop fooling myself. I need out of MT, sure, but being a brand new coder, no experience, at age 56 (by the time i am done with course) - the reality is the chances are very slim I will find a full time position for one and the other is finding one that will pay enough for me to live. It's only me, so if I "lose a contract" when it is over or can't make the cut after all, then what? I see so many say "you're never too old" "it's never too late" "don't give up" etc.... but i need REAL TRUE reality, not to be lifted up into false reality. If I am wrong, let me know, but at this point, I do not see the point in pushing forward. Thanks, everyone!
