False statistics for average salary of an MT from online sources? - Curious

Posted: Aug 27th, 2016 - 1:46 pm

Looking up the average salary of an MT online, it states on multiple sources that it's between 27,000 - 42,000, with most making around 30,000+ a year. I've been transcribing for the last 7 years, and most companies tend to pay similar pay rates at .045 cpl for VR and .075 for straight type, with a gradual raise up to 5 and 8 cpl, maybe a bit higher if lucky. If I calculate what I'd make doing my very best without distractions, having great dictators daily, etc., I'd still fall under 30,000 a year. At best, I can make probably 24,000 yearly as a full-time, home-based MT.

Now my question is:  AM I MISSING OUT ON SOMETHING? Where, oh where, can I find a company to work for who will pay me a 30k salary??
